BROOK PARK, Ohio – A 26-year-old Cleveland man driving on I-480 eastbound near West 139th Street punched his passenger, a 32-year-old Cleveland woman, which led to her opening the car door and jumping out at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4.

Someone called police after seeing the incident. When police arrived, the woman was walking on the shoulder of eastbound 480. Her calf was bleeding and her pants were torn.
The woman identified the car’s driver. Police called him, but he hung up. Police called him again and left a voice message.
The woman’s sister arrived. She said the man had driven to her house and told her that the woman had jumped from his car. He handed the sister the woman’s cell phone, which she had left in the car.
The woman said she and the man had argued in the car after her daughter’s father visited. During the argument, he punched her in the head several times. She told him she wanted out the car. He moved the car into the right lane of the freeway, and she thought he was going to pull over, but he didn’t slow down before she jumped. The man kept driving and exited the freeway.
The woman didn’t want to press charges. The man finally called police back and acknowledged that the woman jumped from the car, but he provided no details of the incident.
