A 17-year-old passenger was killed in a one-car accident in Millville, police said.
Officers responded to the 500 block of South Wade Boulevard shortly before midnight on Aug. 31 for a report of an overturned vehicle.
Investigation revealed that an 18-year-old man was driving a Honda Civic southbound on South Wade when he lost control of the car and it left the roadway, police said. The Honda slid sideways into a utility pole and fire hydrant, causing the vehicle to overturn.
A 17-year-old male in the backseat was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Authorities have not released his identity.
The driver and a 17-year-old male in the front passenger seat were taken to hospitals for evaluation and treatment. A 15-year-old girl in the backseat was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, according to police.
The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been announced.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Millville Police Patrolman William Stadnick at 856-825-7010, ext. 7323.
